Edited by: General Tzu on 06/03/2006 19:24:39 i cannot speak on the intricacies of manufacturing, but i can give my inputs on the predator vs prey. but only from the prey side.
i've been mission running in empire for a long time. the reason why i haven't ventured into low-sec until last night is simple. i was trying to build up enough profit to replace my ships that, according to everyone in low-sec, i was going to lose the second i stepped in.
now couple that with the lack of understanding about 0.0 you describe and why would anyone wanting to "play smart" even think about going there? its not that i never WANTED to go into 0.0, i just never knew how and didn't want to go in knowing i'd lose everything i'd invested in.
bottom line is there is not much in the way of understanding 0.0 unless you go out and learn it. and with everyone populating it advising people to stay out, staking territory and effectively driving everyone out, its no wonder most people starting the game nowadays stay in empire space.
as it stands now, there is really not a whole lot that ENCOURAGES people to go into low security space. every corp and alliance with a bit of money has staked ownership of almost everywhere, gate campers are at the chokepoints almost 24/7 and even if you were to get there you wouldn't survive long. i went out to 0.0 with a friend the other night and was grilled several times and warned to leave and stay out because i was new with no standings. the person i was with told me to be really careful what i said and where i went or a fleet of badasses would come in and wipe me off the map.
now what kind of encouragement does that give a new player who has invested several months building up the revenue they DO have, to go out and be a productive part of the same world people are telling them to stay out of in the same sentence, or they'll lose what they've worked for in a single shot?
you want to blame someone for CCP making changes to the game mechanics to appease one side of the fence or the other? blame the people creating the separation between predator and prey and building a larger and larger fence between the two.
